Cookie Policy
Last updated 6 September 2026 · Varnan Digital (OPC) Private Limited · CIN U62090KL2025OPC096808
This policy lists every cookie and tracking technology varnandigital.com can set, what each one does, how long it lasts, and how to change your mind. It sits alongside the Privacy Policy.
How consent works here. We do not ask permission and then load the trackers anyway. Until you accept a category, the code for Google Analytics, Google AdSense, Microsoft Clarity, Calendly and Sign in with Google is served to your browser in an inert state and never runs. Choosing Reject all leaves it inert and clears the non-essential cookies your browser will let us reach.
1. What a cookie is
A cookie is a small text file a site stores in your browser. Related technologies do the same job by other means: local storage, session storage, pixels and software development kits. Where this policy says “cookie”, it means all of them.
Cookies set by varnandigital.com are first-party. Cookies set by a service loaded into our pages, such as Google or Microsoft, are third-party, and that provider decides how the data is used. Session cookies vanish when you close the browser; persistent cookies survive until they expire or you delete them.
2. The four categories
Every cookie on this site belongs to one of four groups. Only the first is on by default.
Strictly necessary — always on
Without these the site cannot deliver pages, stay secure, or remember the choice you just made. They set no advertising or profiling identifiers, and consent is not required for them by law.
| Cookie | Set by | Purpose | Lifetime |
|---|---|---|---|
| varnan_consent | Varnan (first party) | Stores your cookie choice so we do not ask on every page. Contains only your category selections and a timestamp. | 180 days |
| __cf_bm, cf_clearance | Cloudflare | Distinguishes humans from bots and manages security challenges. | 30 minutes to 1 year |
| wfwaf-authcookie-*, wf_loginalerted_* | Wordfence | Firewall and login protection for the WordPress admin area. | Session to 12 hours |
| wordpress_test_cookie | WordPress | Checks whether your browser accepts cookies before showing the login form. | Session |
| wordpress_logged_in_*, wp-settings-* | WordPress | Keeps a logged-in editor signed in and remembers their admin screen settings. Only set for site staff, never for visitors. | Session to 1 year |
Analytics — off until you allow it
These tell us which pages get read and where people give up. Microsoft Clarity also records an anonymised replay of the session and builds heatmaps; it masks text input by default, so what you type into a form is not captured.
| Cookie | Set by | Purpose | Lifetime |
|---|---|---|---|
| _ga, _ga_<container> | Google Analytics 4 | Assigns a random identifier to distinguish one visitor from another and keeps session state. | 2 years |
| _gid | Google Analytics 4 | Distinguishes visitors within a 24-hour window. | 24 hours |
| _gat | Google Analytics 4 | Limits how often requests are sent. | 1 minute |
| _clck, _clsk | Microsoft Clarity | Links page views to a single Clarity user and session so a replay can be assembled. | 1 year and 1 day |
| MUID, CLID, ANONCHK, SM, SRM_B | Microsoft | Identifies a browser to Microsoft services and synchronises identifiers across Microsoft domains. | Session to 13 months |
Advertising — off until you allow it
Google AdSense is present on this site through Google Site Kit. These cookies measure ad performance and can be used to personalise advertising. With Advertising switched off, the AdSense script never executes.
| Cookie | Set by | Purpose | Lifetime |
|---|---|---|---|
| __gads, __gpi, __eoi | Google AdSense | Measures ad interactions and limits how often the same ad is shown. | 13 months |
| _gcl_au, _gcl_aw, _gcl_dc | Attributes a conversion to the ad click that produced it. | 90 days | |
| IDE, test_cookie | Google DoubleClick | Ad targeting and measurement on Google’s advertising domains. | 15 minutes to 13 months |
Functional — off until you allow it
Convenience features that load from another company’s servers. Nothing on this site breaks if you leave them off: the Calendly scheduler is also reachable as a plain link, and Sign in with Google is only relevant to site staff.
| Cookie | Set by | Purpose | Lifetime |
|---|---|---|---|
| g_state | Google Identity Services | Remembers that you dismissed the Sign in with Google prompt. | Session |
| __Host-GAPS, SID, HSID | Set on Google’s own domain when the sign-in library loads. | Session to 2 years | |
| Calendly cookies | Calendly | Session and scheduling state, set only if you open the scheduler. | Session to 1 year |
3. What is not on this site
Some things you would expect to find are deliberately absent. We host our own web fonts rather than calling a font service, so no request reaches a font provider. We do not run a Meta pixel, a LinkedIn Insight tag, a TikTok pixel or a chat widget on this site. Photographs sourced from Unsplash are loaded from Unsplash’s image servers, which means your IP address reaches Unsplash, but no Unsplash cookie is set on your browser.
If we add any tracker later, it will be added to this table and to the consent gate before it goes live, not afterwards.
4. Changing your mind
Use the Cookie preferences link in the footer of any page. You can accept everything, refuse everything, or switch categories on individually. Refusing takes effect immediately: we clear the non-essential cookies set on our own domain and stop the tags from running.
Some cookies live on another company’s domain, such as google.com or clarity.ms, and a website cannot delete those for you. To remove them, clear cookies in your browser settings, or use these controls:
- Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on
- Google My Ad Center for advertising personalisation
- Microsoft Clarity cookie information
Your browser can also block cookies wholesale, and most support a “Do Not Track” or Global Privacy Control signal. We treat a Global Privacy Control signal as a refusal of the analytics and advertising categories.
5. How long your choice lasts
We keep your decision for 180 days and then ask again, so a consent you gave last year does not silently carry on forever. Clearing your browser cookies also clears the record of your choice, and the banner will reappear.
6. Changes
This policy is reviewed whenever we add, remove or reconfigure a tracking technology, and at least once a year. The date at the top of the page tells you when it last changed.
